This year was the 25th Anniversary of the formation of KEBA, now known as KEBAA. The reunion was held at the Sketchley Grange Hotel in Leicester, with numbers down on last year. The upside was that everyone got to chat to everyone else throughout the weekend.
Saturday’s trip was to the Great Central Railway in Loughborough for the morning, and afternoon in Leicester.
Sunday, after the AGM, we visited the National Memorial Arboretum to unveil a Plaque dedicated to all RAF Armourers. Due to a misunderstanding in the office, we were misdirected to the wrong area for where the Plaque was placed. After a search party went out, we finally found the Plaque very near the Boy Entrants Memorial. Unfortunately, most of the members were feeling that it was too far to walk and went back into the café for some refreshments.
However, we did manage a tour of the Arboretum via the Land Train, which took about an hour to get round.
You should have received your booking form for the 2016 reunion in Stourport on Severn. If you are intending to attend, and if you would like to bring family members or friends, please add them to the booking form.
The new KEBAA blazer badges (10) have been sent to Keith Reading and will be for sale to those who want them for £18 plus £2 pp.
Also there are KEBAA wall shields available at £35 plus pp. Not sure at present what the cost of post and packing would be. However, as the shields are hand painted to special order, delivery at present is in the region of 8 to 10 weeks.
Other items for sale include:
Baseball Caps @£ 4.50 each; Headscarves @ £ 2.50 each; Coasters @ 4 for £ 1.00,
Car Stickers @ £ 0.50 each; Key chains @ £ 1.00 each; lapel badge @ £ 0.75 each; Armourers ties @ £ 7.50 each; KEBA Ties @ £ 5.00 each; Credit Card holder @ £ 3.50 each
If you would like of the items listed, please let Keith know, either by email (email@example.com) or telephone number 01526 323 885.
I close this newsletter with sadness regarding the loss of Don McGuirk, Mel Quick and Bryn Richards.
Don lost his battle with cancer on the 17th May 2015. He was a guide at the National Memorial Arboretum, and when we visited the NME I enquired about him, and was told that he was in a Hospice in North Wales near his daughter, with terminal cancer.
Mel lost his battle with prostate cancer on the 4th July 2015. Mel’s funeral was a private family one. (Please see Mel’s story at the end of the newsletter)
Bryn also lost his battle with cancer on the 16th July 2015. KEBAA was represented at the funeral by Brian and Pat Collier; Norman and Gillian Williams; and Des & Jeannette Stewart.
Bryn and Don were both in the 2nd Entry at Kirkham and were early members of KEBAA.
We also lost the following over the last six months, some from 2014 and only informed this year:
KEBA 321 Fred Hammick (2014);
KEBA 261 Aubrey Tongue (April 5th);
KEBA 325 Colin Price (Nov 19th 2014);
KEBA 476 Donald Clark (2nd May);
